These research collaborations span humanistic disciplines and draw together Emory students, faculty, and staff in exploring topics ranging from the future of democracy to the history of data visualization. These labs offer Emory undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to collaborate with faculty and gain valuable digital skills while contributing to a variety of digital projects advancing teaching and research.

The ECDS Digital Visualization Lab is a research-focused studio that applies 3D modeling, GIS, simulation, and immersive media to humanities and interdisciplinary scholarship. Our team collaborates with faculty and students to create reconstructions, interactive environments, and XR experiences that clarify spatial relationships and support new forms of inquiry. Our work includes long-term research projects, experimental prototypes, and public-facing visualizations, all aimed at helping scholars see, test, and communicate ideas through visual and spatial means.
At the Digital Humanities Lab, Lauren Klein manages small groups of students in collaborative digital humanities research projects, with a focus on quantitative literary and historical analysis. The lab produces co-authored publications on topics including this history of abolition, social movements, and political change.

Sounding Spirit Collaborative is a research collaborative catalyzing scholarship, teaching, and public engagement with historical sacred vernacular song through digital resources. The collaborative draws together staff, faculty, practitioners, and students in staging events bringing together scholarship and practice and developing co-authored thematic collections, scholarly editions, reference resources, and articles.

OpenWorld Atlanta (OWA) is an interdisciplinary, cross-institutional research project that utilizes digital tools to collect, analyze, and disseminate data about Atlanta’s history and present. The OWA Research and Learning Hub connects various digital projects, neighborhood spaces, and community organizations by aggregating them into a single learning hub, creating opportunities for local and international partnerships and collaborations.
